Intelligence Service chief Kimberley Cheatle resigns in case of deadly attack on Trump

Former director admitted his mistake, said- it was a big mistake

Washington, July 23. Kimberley Cheatle, director of the US Intelligence Service, resigned from her post on Tuesday, admitting her mistake in the deadly attack on former US President Donald Trump.

Cheatle, former head of the Intelligence Service, gave this information in an e-mail to colleagues in the department.

"I take full responsibility for the security lapse. In light of recent events, it is with a heavy heart that I have made the difficult decision to resign as director," Cheatle said in an email Tuesday.

Since the incident of attack on Trump, the Intelligence Service was facing allegations of serious lapses. Due to this, there was huge pressure on Cheetal, who was holding the post of director since August 2022, to resign. A day earlier, Cheatle had admitted to lawmakers that the attempt to assassinate former President Trump was the "most serious" security lapse since the shooting of then President Ronald Reagan in 1981.

Cheatle made the admission during his appearance before the House Oversight and Accountability Committee over the Trump assassination attempt, in which he was questioned by various lawmakers, including two Indian-American lawmakers Raja Krishnamurthy and Ro Khanna. Cheatle said his agency failed in its mission to protect former President Donald Trump in the July 13 assassination attempt.
